Korea's "Silicon Valley", Daejeon is not only the country's heartbeat in science & technology. It is also a major industrial, land transport, and administrative area as well as the gateway to Ginseng country. The metro sashayed toward the 21st century in style and has successfully lured away people and investment from Seoul & its satellites. In time, it will eventually be the "new" Seoul as parliament is seriously considering & planning the transfer of the country's capital to Daejeon.

A mere 50 minutes away south of Seoul via KTX (Korea's bullet train), Daejeon is the country's fifth largest metropolis. As a science city, it is home to Daedeok Science Town, one Asia's premier science towns! There are also numerous private and public research Institutes, Centers and Science parks situated in the metro such the prestigious research centers of Samsung, LG, and Korea University of Science and Technology just to name a few.

Daejeon beautiful scenery dazzles, the standard of living garners raves, and the entertainment possibilities grow in sophistication and imagination

    What they say ...

Daejeon is encircled by a ring of wooded hills that provide a green backdrop to the city. The most accessible is Bomunsan on the south side of the city. You can look around tiny Wongaksa and do a spot of bird watching on your way up past the observation deck, with panoramic views of the city, to Bomunseong, a small fortress that encircles the summit.

    Looney Planet
Every country has a city like DAEJEON - somewhere pleasant to go about daily life, but with little to offer the casual visitor. This major city in Chungcheong region is a rising star in the worlds of science and administration, and has started to suck away people and investment from Seoul and its satellites. In due course, it may even become the "new" Seoul - parliamentary big-shots are exploring the idea of transferring Korea's capital to the Daejeon area. There are a number of mildy diverting attractions dotted in and around the city should you find yourself with time on your hands here. Most vaunted are the Expo Park, built ofr an eposition in 1993 and still a source of local pride, and Yuseong, the therapeutic hot-spring resort situated on the western flank of the city. Further west is Gyeryongsan, a small but pretty national park flanked by two decent temples, and filled to the brim with steep but simple day-hikes. South of Daejeon is a small town of Geumsan, around which most of Korea's ginseng is grown
